People Posts: Fellow travellers

We’ve met so many fellow hikers that it is sad when we find out they are or have left the trail.  Sometimes we just don’t know what has happened to them, wondering where they might be–ahead of us on the trail, behind us, or off the trail.

Right before we got to the Shenandoah National Park, we met up again with Peachtree.  We had met home back in NC at a shelter one night, then passed each other for a couple of days before we didn’t see him again.  It was so nice to have him come onto camp one night and catch up.

We met Special K and her Dad, Hollister, on our first night in the Smokies, hit it off and then would lose each other on the trail, only to meet up in towns down the trail.  We met up again on July 4th and learned that they would be leaving the trail after arriving in Harper’s Ferry.  We had hoped to catch up with them there, but have been unable to reconnect before we head back to the trail on today.

We’ve also heard from another hiker Blue J, who has left the trail too.

We are sad to lose some fellow hikers, but have been able to hike with Little Bird and her dog Peppy.  It has been good to have someone else to hike with and have in camp for dinner conversations as we enjoy their company so much.  It has also been good to have another view on planning how many miles we will hike in a day and where we can and will resupply.

And so our journey continues…

Thinking if you on the trail. Hot and lots of rain recently in NYC. Can’t imagine being in the trail in this weather. So happy for my great air cooling system. Starting to enjoy an easier schedule for the summer but still plenty to do at work. Will get vacation time ….. really need it!
Take care and be safe and enjoy the experience!
    Hugs!
