Movin’ On Up!

August 1 14

Whereas Virginia was “the state that never ends”, lately it has been hard to keep track of what state we’re in!

We began the month of August in New Jersey. New Jersey thoughtful sent us through a myriad of fascinating habitat – some very fragile.  We loved the boardwalk through the marsh. Simply beautiful.

Here is another beautiful sight:

And another:

Next came New York.  The song goes that “The bear went over the mountain”, but one of our favorite moments was going over Bear Mountain and meeting up with the St. Paul’s contingent of well wishers!  Thanks to everyone who came up to see us and all the prayers,  hugs and blessings you brought with you from the folks back home!  What a joy!  What great fun!

Also memorable from New York was the Lemon Squeezer pictured here:

And playing Frogger crossing the Palisades (pictured below) and Route 17 (too scared to take picture):

We also saw the biggest tree on the AT!  (Prairie Dog hugged it.)

Of final note in New York is this flag erected after 9/11 at a site where you could see New York City and used to be able to see the Twin Towers:

Before we new it we had connected with – you guessed it – Connecticut! Prairie Dog joked that Connecticut has only 3 mountains but that they made us climb them each 20 times.

There were some pretty views in Connecticut:

And we hit another milestone -1500 miles!

On August 14 we entered Massachusetts! Phew!

We are enjoying being back in higher elevations again where walking up on the peaks let you see for miles and miles (and miles and miles…).

Yesterday we walked out to Route 7 and were met by Ma and Pa Prairie Dog!  They brought us into Great Barrington were we are taking a zero today.  We’ll head back out tomorrow morning so that we have more stories to tell!  Onward and upward!

About dragonfly2013at

Years ago i was walking in nature and a dragonfly landed on my hand. My hiking companion commented,"Change is coming in your life." Indeed, it was! I worked in business where pumps were the fashion. I left it for work where orange shoes are appreciated. This suits me. I love what I do. I just need a break to refresh and so I am! I am the 4th of 11 children. Years ago orange shoes assured that I would not be left behind (we moved a lot)...or suffer face first in a snow drift for too long. I will wear orange laces on the hike. Orange is not in hiking boot fashion at this time. Blessings on the journey. Dragonfly
